OFFLINE EDIT: STARTING THE POST-PRODUCTION PROCESS FOR YOUR VIDEO
"A film is made three times:
once when you write it, once when you shoot it, and once when you edit it."
— Jean-Luc Godard

Whether you're creating a television commercial, a corporate brand film, a documentary,
a social media campaign, or a feature-length production, you will know that editing is truly where things begin to take shape and you get to see the fruits of your labour.
Think about it, you’re basically taking hundreds of individual shots, interviews, sound recordings, graphics, and creative ideas and assembling it into what will be your final product, so undoubtedly, the decisions you make during this phase will have a huge impact on how your audience connects with your video.
At Mastery Films, post-production is nothing short of a collaborative process between our team and our clients, just like it has been during the pre-production and production phase of the project.
Here is but a glimpse of what we can do for you during this phase of the project.
OFFLINE EDITING

First things first—the offline edit. This is the first major step where our editor begins laying the foundation for everything that will follow within your video.
Essentially, all the footage we shot during production will have its assets organized, the goal of which is to identify the strongest moments and begin laying them in sequential order based on the video’s confirmed storyboard. It is during this process that we can gauge the video’s pacing, tone, and overall direction before we begin fine-tuning.
It’s worth nothing, though, that in order to get the right video, it’s not just about picking the best looking shots. There are a few other things that will help ensure the success of your video, which includes:
Post Scheduling & Management
If there’s no schedule and deadline for us to work towards, then there’s a high chance that the editing process will end up going off the rails and it’ll be forever and a half before you end up with your final video.
It is because of this that we believe that a well-managed post-production process is what will help everyone avoid any potential bottlenecks, assuming that there are multiple video deliverables, while also helping keep any and all stakeholders aligned on when they can expect to receive each draft of the video along with when the necessary comments and revisions will be received and made.
This is typically done through the expertise of a Post-Producer who will act as the bridge between you as the client and our team of editors, so the more clear the communication is between the two, then the better experience you can expect to have during the post process.
Choosing The Right Editor
There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to editors. After all, you wouldn’t expect to have a corporate video editor manage the editing of a feature-length film.
You see, any experienced editor will undoubtedly have their own style of editing where some might excel at more fast-paced social media content while others will want to approach the editing differently, whether it be via a different pace, etc. It is because of this that we believe selecting the right editor can significantly impact the final outcome of a project.
Conducting Reviews & Receiving Feedback
Last, but certainly not least, and building off of one of our earlier points when it comes to the Post-Producer, it’s how we receive the feedback and conduct the revisions that definitely benefits when it’s an efficient process.
Overall, each and every project will have a client that prefers to give feedback in a variety of different ways whether it be via an in-person editing session, which we call a doublehead, or through a series of virtual meetings or merely giving comments on the video directly.
A majority of the time, it’s when the video is of a particular importance, i.e. a commercial, that having these in-person editing sessions would be the most efficient because the client and editor can discuss the changes needed and, thereby, see the adjustments being made in real time without worry of experiencing lag time. The goal in all of this is to ensure that we are reducing any room for misunderstandings in an effort to make the final product better.
BRINGING LIFE TO YOUR VIDEO
What this all comes down is utilizing editing to create a great final product. You’ll be able to refine your message, highlight the right portions where the performance is perfect, and strengthen any remaining visual components that will be a benefit to your video.
So whether you're producing a corporate video, documentary, branded content campaign, or commercial production, our team is ready to help transform your footage into a finished piece that achieves your creative and business objectives.
